To provide a building design that is robust, adaptable, and affordable, one must understand the aspects of building’s geographic location will impact equipment selections, operating hours, maintenance needs. One also consider “thermal resilience,” i.e., its ability to withstand heating plant outage. Designing for resilience growing importance, especially military government installations maintain critical functions even during outages. Buildings with fast rate temperature degradation loss system function have low resiliency; buildings slower higher resiliency.
